The holiday break over summer from school and regular orchestral performances, has seen an unusual amount of time to stand behind the lathes and turn out some barrels. A couple of trips to my favourite timber supplier has replenished the stock of barrel blanks, and as some new woods have arrived, I am looking forward to trying these new woods out!
The timber is all Australian hardwood, and I am amazed by the qualities that the current woods produce. There is something about the Australian climate that brutally prepares the timber to be perfect for a new life as a clarinet (or part thereof).
It has also afforded me the time to commence work on my new workshop, that will give me the space for more tools, and more storage for more wood! Needless to say, the past six weeks have been very exciting!
Hopefully we will finish construction of the workshop in the coming week, and I will be sure to upload photos of how excited I am in my new space!
